UNICAL Law Students Protest Against Dean Amidst Sexual Harassment Accusations

In a recent development at the University of Calabar, a group of female law students have taken to the campus to voice their concerns and accusations against Professor Cyril Ndifon, the Dean of the Faculty of Law. The students allege that Prof Ndifon has been repeatedly subjecting them to sexual harassment.

Clad in groups, the students marched through the campus on Monday afternoon, chanting slogans such as ‘Ndifon, go! go!’ Their protest was marked by the display of placards bearing messages such as “Ndifon Must Go!”, “We’re tired of sucking dicks for marks”, “Law Girls Are Not Bonanza”, and “Prof Ndifon Must Stop Grabbing our Bum Bum”.

Comrade Benedict Otu, President of the Law Students Association of Nigeria (LAWSAN), Unical branch, led the protest against Prof Ndifon. However, in a telephone response, Prof Ndifon strongly denied the allegations of sexual harassment and authoritative behavior. He insisted that the allegations were concocted by individuals within the faculty who harbored intentions of damaging his reputation.

Prof Ndifon also pointed out that the protest seemed to be orchestrated by a specific group due to the uniform handwriting on the placards. He questioned how the protesters were aware of a scheduled meeting with the Vice Chancellor, implying insider involvement. Prof Ndifon further claimed that the LAWSAN president coerced students into attending the meeting only to distribute placards with false accusations against him.

Refuting the claims made by Prof Ndifon, the protesting students continued to demand his removal from the faculty. They assert that his denials are an attempt to cover up the alleged incidents of sexual harassment. In response, Prof Florence Obi, the Vice Chancellor, assured the students that the university administration is committed to addressing the concerns raised by the students.

As the controversy unfolds, tensions rise at the University of Calabar amidst these allegations and protests against the Dean of the Faculty of Law. The university community awaits further developments and actions to address the serious allegations put forth by the protesting students.
