Gwynne gained prominence in the late 1980s with her breakthrough role in the TV drama Nice Work. However, it was her portrayal of the cynical journalist Alex in the topical satire Drop the Dead Donkey that earned her widespread recognition and a BAFTA nomination. Her remarkable performances continued with roles in shows like Peak Practice, Merseybeat, and The Windsors, where she played Queen Camilla.
