Renowned Nollywood actress, Rita Edochie, has called on the Federal Government to release Nnamdi Kanu, the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), stating that it would lead to the resolution of the longstanding unrest in the South East region of Nigeria.

In an impassioned post on her Instagram page earlier today, Edochie expressed her frustration with what she referred to as “elites” who send their own children abroad to live while exploiting the children of the less privileged to incite unrest in the region.

Edochie’s post read, “RELEASE MAZI NNAMDI OKWU KANU TODAY AND SEE THE UNREST IN THE SOUTH EAST BECOME HISTORY. STOP PLAYING WITH PEOPLE’S LIVES, ESPECIALLY ALL YOU ELITES THAT HAVE YOUR CHILDREN OVERSEAS AND ARE USING OTHER PEOPLE’S CHILDREN TO CREATE UNREST. IF YOU ARE ONE OF THEM, YOUR GENERATION AND GENERATIONS TO COME WILL NEVER KNOW PEACE.”

The popular actress, known for her outspoken nature, expressed her belief that the release of Nnamdi Kanu, who has been in custody for an extended period, would serve as a crucial step towards peace and reconciliation in the South East.

The South East region of Nigeria has experienced waves of unrest and agitation in recent years, with calls for self-determination and demands for the creation of an independent state of Biafra. The arrest and detention of Nnamdi Kanu, a prominent figure in the pro-Biafra movement, has further fueled tensions in the region.

Rita Edochie’s comments have sparked conversations among Nigerians, with many sharing her sentiment that resolving the Kanu case could lead to a peaceful resolution of the issues plaguing the South East. Others, however, maintain that a holistic approach to addressing the root causes of the unrest is necessary.

The call for the release of Nnamdi Kanu has been a subject of debate, with different opinions from various stakeholders, including politicians, activists, and the general public. The Nigerian government has yet to respond to Edochie’s plea or provide updates on the status of Nnamdi Kanu’s case.

As the discussions surrounding the South East region and Nnamdi Kanu’s detention continue, the hope for lasting peace and stability in the area remains at the forefront of public concern.
