Bill Gates Commends Nigeria’s Afrobeats, Reveals Daughter’s Remarks on Burna Boy and Rema

Co-founder of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, Mr. Bill Gates, shared an interesting anecdote about his daughter’s anticipation of his visit to Nigeria, emphasizing the widespread appeal of Nigerian Afrobeats.

Speaking at the ‘Advancing Africa: Unleashing the Power of Youth in Science and Innovation’ event in Lagos State, Gates recounted a conversation with his daughter, Phoebe, who expressed her excitement for him to encounter Nigerian Afrobeats sensations, Burna Boy and Rema, during his stay.

Acknowledging the remarkable creativity that thrives in Nigeria, Gates remarked, “Afrobeats from Nigeria are popular everywhere. When my daughter Phoebe heard I was coming to Nigeria, she said, ‘You’re lucky to go see Burna Boy and Rema.'”

Gates also reminisced about his previous visit, where he had the pleasure of witnessing performances by Davido and Wizkid. Reflecting on that experience, he added, “But I also remember, the last time I was here, I did get to see Davido and Wizkid perform, and I was quite impressed with that. So, my kids think I’ve come to a very hip place.”
