Nigerian hip-hop artist BlaqBonez, in a recent interview with Kimoprah on Hip TV’s Trending, unveiled that fellow artist Asake, who is currently enjoying massive popularity, used to be his backup singer before attaining stardom.

BlaqBonez, known for his hit album “Sex Over Love,” expressed his longstanding friendship with Asake, along with Fireboy, Superboi Cheque, Yhemolee, and Zamorra, tracing back to their early careers at Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) in Ife, Osun State.

During the conversation, BlaqBonez acknowledged the contributions of Asake and Zamorra, revealing their assistance in the studio with background vocals. He commended Asake’s exceptional vocal abilities, mentioning that the artist had a profound understanding of utilizing his vocals, even during their time at OAU.

“I have known Fireboy, Asake, Superboi Cheque, Yhemolee, and Zamorra since OAU days,” said BlaqBonez. “Zamorra and Asake have always been great at backups. You know this thing Asake does now with his vocals, he has understood this thing from time. So, I used to ask him to help me figure out these things. They’ve always been influential in my music journey because I feel like every phase of BlaqBonez helped build the BlaqBonez that I am now.”
