Renowned Nigerian actress, Omotola Jalade Ekeinde, affectionately known as Omosexy, has emphasized that Nollywood played a significant role in introducing the Nigerian entertainment industry to the global stage long before Afrobeats gained prominence.
Omotola made this revelation in a recent Instagram post on Thursday, where she reflected on her impact within Nollywood and worldwide, predating the advent of social media.
To substantiate her claim of taking Nollywood to the world before the rise of Afrobeats, Omotola shared vintage movie clips featuring herself alongside esteemed colleagues from the industry, including Rita Dominic, Genevieve Nnaji, and Stella Damasus.
Expressing her nostalgia, Omotola wrote, “Someone sent me some of these videos, and it was nostalgic, lol. Despite the not-so-great quality and the absence of social media, these movies broke barriers. Way before Afrobeats, we introduced Nigerian Entertainment to the world. We took on the world, and we still do.”
She further challenged her followers to name the movies they recognized, adding a touch of humor with the statement, “Lol.”
