Renowned rapper Eminem has formally requested that Republican presidential contender Vivek Ramaswamy cease utilizing his music for campaign purposes, as revealed in a public letter circulated on Monday.

A recent viral video captured Ramaswamy, who is experiencing a surge in popularity within the Republican primary race, enthusiastically singing along to Eminem’s hit track “Lose Yourself” during an appearance at the Iowa State Fair earlier this month.

In a letter initially reported by the Daily Mail and subsequently confirmed by AFP, Broadcast Music Inc. (BMI), a prominent music licensing agency, acknowledged receiving an official demand from Eminem. The request explicitly calls for the 38-year-old candidate to discontinue the use of Eminem’s music in his campaign.

Ramaswamy, who dubs himself “Trump 2.0,” has remarkably ascended to the third position among the contenders vying for the 2024 presidential primary elections in the Republican party.

During his time as an undergraduate student at Harvard, Ramaswamy showcased his versatility by pursuing a sideline as a rapper under the moniker “Da Vek.” His libertarian-themed lyrics earned him recognition, with The Crimson, Harvard’s student newspaper, playfully remarking in 2006, “If you think debater-extraordinaire Vivek G. Ramaswamy ’07 is intense, you obviously haven’t met Da Vek.”

This incident is reminiscent of the past two election cycles, during which prominent artists including Pharrell Williams, Rihanna, Aerosmith, Adele, and even heirs of Prince expressed dissatisfaction when their music was used at Donald Trump rallies without their consent.

The Rolling Stones went so far as to issue a legal threat, indicating a potential lawsuit if the Trump campaign persisted in playing their iconic track “You Can’t Always Get What You Want” without permission.
