The ban comes after allegations surfaced that Mmesoma had forged and inflated her UTME result. The family of the student, however, stands firmly behind her, asserting that there is a conspiracy to deny her well-deserved academic success.

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) revealed that Mmesoma manually manipulated her UTME score from 249 to 362, using the inflated result to secure a N3 million scholarship from Innoson Motors. She was also set to receive recognition from the Anambra State government before the forgery was exposed.

Mmesoma’s father, Mr. Ejikeme Romanus, vehemently denies the accusations, emphasizing his daughter’s consistent academic excellence from nursery school to secondary school. He argues that Mmesoma’s friends discovered her score online and notified her, prompting her to print the result. Mr. Ejikeme expressed his disbelief in the allegations, suggesting that they are a ploy to transfer the scholarship to another individual.

The police in Anambra State stated that they have not received any reports regarding Mmesoma’s UTME score forgery. The controversy surrounding the case has prompted an investigation by the Anambra State government, and Mmesoma has been taken to the Department of State Services (DSS) for questioning.

JAMB spokesperson, Dr. Fabian Benjamin, disclosed that Mmesoma’s fraudulent result was uncovered through the use of a security device called QR code scan. Upon scanning the QR code on her result, it was discovered that the code belonged to a candidate who had taken the examination in 2021 and scored 138, contradicting Mmesoma’s claim of scoring 362. Further investigations revealed that Mmesoma had potentially used graphic design to manipulate the scores.

Dr. Benjamin emphasized that Mmesoma’s case is not an isolated incident, as there have been instances of candidates falsely claiming higher scores. However, Mmesoma’s case gained prominence due to her public display of the manipulated result. As a consequence, her original score of 249 has been withdrawn, and she is now prohibited from participating in the UTME for the next three years.

Meanwhile, Mmesoma herself has released a video maintaining her innocence, stating that she did not forge her result. She presented her printed result and argued that the QR code scan revealed a different candidate’s details. The Anambra State government has initiated an investigation into the matter, while former Minister of Education, Obiageli Ezekwesili, has called for an independent forensic investigation to uncover the truth.

The unfolding saga between Mmesoma Ejikeme and JAMB has sparked widespread debate, raising concerns about the integrity of examination results and the need for thorough investigations in such cases.
