Universal has unveiled the initial six minutes of Fast X, their electrifying new addition to the Fast and Furious franchise, online ahead of its release on video on demand.
The prologue sequence offers a fresh perspective on the heist scene from Fast Five, now presented through the eyes of Jason Momoa’s captivating antagonist, Dante Reyes—a narrative approach reminiscent of Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead. This captivating opening not only sets the tone for the film but also delves deeper into Dante’s sinister motivations.
The sequence begins with Brian (Paul Walker) and Dominic (Vin Diesel) maneuvering their high-powered Dodge Chargers, dragging a bank vault through the bustling streets of Rio de Janeiro, closely pursued by Joaquin de Almeida’s Hernan Reyes—presumably Dante’s father. In the original film, the sequence ends with Dom taking full control of the vault, mirroring this rendition.
However, in this particular version, the focus shifts from Dom triumphantly standing on the Brazilian bridge to the franchise’s iconic protagonist dispatching Hernan with a swinging blow from the bank vault. The scene then transitions to new footage, showcasing Momoa being forcefully ejected from his vehicle and dramatically plunging into the depths of the water, only to open his eyes with intensity.
What Lies Ahead for the Fast Family?
Just yesterday, Diesel shared a tantalizing social media post teasing the release of Fast X Part 2, slated for April 4, 2025—an installment that will undoubtedly carry a hilariously titled moniker, such as Fast & Fur11ous. Fast X concludes with an unexpected cliffhanger, leaving our beloved heroes in a precarious situation as they face an uncertain future. However, two prominent A-list cameo appearances shed light on potential directions for the franchise.
Gal Gadot’s Gisele, who seemingly met her demise in Fast and Furious 6, surprisingly emerges alive and well, commanding a nuclear submarine in the film’s concluding moments. In the post-credits scene, Dwayne Johnson’s character, Luke Hobbs, experiences a brighter turn of events, hinting at his return. These revelations, along with Momoa’s inclusion, are expected to shape the core narrative of Fast X Part 2, while also leading to Johnson’s standalone film—currently billed as Fast X.5, adding an additional layer of complexity. It remains to be seen whether Jason Statham’s Deckard Shaw, who partnered with Johnson in Fast and Furious Presents: Hobbs and Shaw, will also feature in this upcoming film.
