The film stars British actor Kingsley Ben-Adir as the iconic reggae legend, Bob Marley, and Lashana Lynch as his wife, Rita Marley. Directed by Reinaldo Marcus Green, the biopic is set to hit theaters on Friday, January 12, 2024.

The trailer offers a captivating glimpse into the film, which has been in the making for the past four to five years, as stated by producer Ziggy Marley. It opens with a stunning aerial shot of a massive crowd eagerly awaiting the appearance of Bob Marley, before shifting to a quieter backstage scene featuring Rita Marley and The Wailers.

The trailer showcases pivotal moments from Bob Marley’s life, focusing primarily on the years 1976 to 1978. Director Reinaldo Marcus Green explained that this specific period, which includes the attempted assassination of Bob and Rita Marley, the creation of the iconic “Exodus” album, and the historic One Love Peace Concert in Jamaica, provides insights into Bob’s personal and musical journey as a father, husband, and musician.

Rather than aiming for a comprehensive cradle-to-grave story, the filmmakers chose to concentrate on this transformative phase in Bob Marley’s life. Ziggy Marley, along with his sister Cedella Marley and mother Rita Marley, serves as a producer alongside Brad Pitt, Robert Teitel, Jeremy Kleiner, and Dede Gardner. The film is executive-produced by Orly Marley, Richard Hewitt, and Matt Solodky.

Ziggy Marley expressed his long-standing commitment to bringing his father’s story to the screen and assured fans that Kingsley Ben-Adir delivered an exceptional performance. Addressing concerns about authenticity, Ziggy emphasized that Ben-Adir’s portrayal captures the emotional depth and spirit of Bob Marley, rather than attempting to replace the legendary musician.

The film production took place in the United Kingdom and Jamaica, with a predominantly Jamaican cast both in front of and behind the camera. The team worked closely with Paramount Pictures to ensure an authentic representation of Bob Marley’s life and legacy.

As the release date approaches, fans of Bob Marley and reggae music eagerly anticipate the arrival of “Bob Marley: One Love,” a biopic that aims to honor the cultural significance and enduring legacy of the legendary musician.
