Country Music Television (CMT) has pulled Jason Aldean’s music video for his song “Try That In A Small Town” after it was met with backlash for its lyrics and imagery.
The video, which was released on Friday, features Aldean singing about the dangers of challenging the status quo in a small town. The lyrics include lines such as “Cuss out a cop, spit in his face / Stomp on the flag and light it up / Yeah, ya think you’re tough / Well, try that in a small town / See how far ya make it down the road.”
The video also features footage of protests and riots, as well as scenes of violence. This has led some to accuse Aldean of promoting violence and intolerance.
Aldean has defended the song, saying that it is not about promoting violence, but rather about the importance of community and standing up for what you believe in.
However, CMT has decided to pull the video from rotation. In a statement, the network said that it “does not condone the views expressed in the song or the video.”
