‘PERU,’ by Fireboy, has gone platinum in the United States

Fireboy, a Nigerian celebrity, has been awarded an RIAA platinum plaque for his popular tune ‘Peru,’ which has sold over one million units in the United States.

EMPIRE, the distribution firm for the YBNL label to which Fireboy is signed, revealed the news of Fireboy earning his platinum plaque for ‘Peru’ on Wednesday, 2nd February 2023.

The track, which was released on July 21st, 2021, was an instant success in Nigeria, where it enthralled listeners and dominated the charts. The song immediately made its way to the international market, where it achieved considerable success before receiving an Ed Sheeran remix in December 2021.

The remix catapulted the song to international prominence, prompting the Government of Peru to tweet about it. It also charted on the Billboard Hot 100 and the UK Official Singles Chart.

Fireboy performed the song on stage at the 2022 BET Awards, becoming the first African artist to do so. He also sang it in front of nearly 80,000 people at Ed Sheeran’s concert at Wembley Stadium.

Its RIAA platinum plaque attests to its success in the United States, where it has been one of the most successful Afrobeats singles since 2021. Fireboy joins Davido, CKay, Wizkid, Burna Boy, and Rema as Nigerian lead artists who have received RIAA platinum plaques.

The plaque is also a monument to Afrobeats’ expanding global appeal. Fireboy has soared to stardom since breaking into the mainstream with his debut album ‘Laughter, Tears, and Goosebumps’ in 2019.
