In an official statement released on Wednesday, Willie Bassey, the director of information at the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), announced that Bawa’s suspension was necessary to facilitate a thorough investigation into allegations of misconduct during his tenure.

The suspension was prompted by serious accusations of abuse of office, as Bassey explained, “President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, has approved the indefinite suspension from office of Mr AbdulRasheed Bawa, CON, as the chairman, Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to allow for proper investigation into his conduct while in office.”

The statement further instructed Bawa to hand over his responsibilities to Abdulkarim Chukkol, the director of operations at the commission. Chukkol will temporarily oversee the duties of the chairman’s office until the investigation reaches its conclusion.

It is evident that President Tinubu has taken proactive measures to address the situation, ensuring that a thorough investigation is conducted to ascertain the veracity of the allegations against Bawa.
