The shooting took place in the 5800 Mascher Street area at around 8:30 p.m., according to the Philadelphia Police Department. Devin Spady, 25, was shot in the back and pronounced dead at a nearby hospital. Two other men, ages 28 and 31, were also shot but are in stable condition.

No arrests have been made and a motive for the shooting is not yet known.

Spady was a rising rapper who went by the stage name YNG Cheese. He was the son of Gillie Da Kid, who is known for his work on the podcast “Million Dollaz Worth of Game.”

Gillie Da Kid has not yet publicly commented on the shooting. His Gillie Fest was previously announced to be taking place later this month, though it’s unclear if the event will move forward in light of Thursday’s tragic news.

The shooting is the latest in a string of gun violence in Philadelphia. The city has seen a 50% increase in homicides so far this year compared to last year.

The news of Spady’s death has sent shockwaves through the Philadelphia rap community. Many artists have taken to social media to express their condolences, including Metro Boomin, 21 Savage, 03 Greedo, Young Scooter, Sway, Ebro, and Big Boi.

“RIP YNG Cheese,” Metro Boomin wrote on Twitter. “This one hurt.”

“I’m praying for Gillie and his family,” 21 Savage said. “This is so sad.”

“Rest in peace, YNG Cheese,” 03 Greedo said. “You were too young.”

The shooting is a reminder of the ongoing gun violence problem in Philadelphia. It is also a tragedy for the family and friends of YNG Cheese. His death is a loss to the Philadelphia rap community and to the city as a whole.
